**Your new company**
This position works with the Senior Communications Officer to assist in the development and implementation of operational marketing and communication services to enhance, protect and promote the brand, reputation, products and services of the City.
**Your new role**
The Communications Officer is responsible for promoting the Shire, its events, programs, and activities, and enhancing the Shire’s reputation in accordance with the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan objectives. This position is also responsible for overseeing corporate branding, producing Council publications, and facilitating internal and external communications, including the media.
**Responsibilities**:
**Corporate Communications**
- Implement, monitor and review the Shire’s Strategic Communications Plan in consultation with the Manager Communications and Customer Engagement.
- Contribute to the development of processes, procedures and strategies to achieve excellence across all areas of communication.
- Provide broad media and communication advice to staff and service teams facilitating effective community consultation as required on matters affecting the Shire.
- Oversee the development of corporate publications.
**Media communication**
- Produce high quality media releases to inform the community about the Shire’s activities, programs, projects, and strategic direction.
- Work with internal business units to identify good news stories to promote the Shire’s activities, programs, and projects.
- Manage incoming media enquiries in a timely manner with a view to improving the Shire’s reputation and standing within the community.
- Identify opportunities for and coordinate media interviews and photo opportunities for the Shire’s media spokespeople.
- Undertake other media management duties as required.
- Provide support in the development and distribution of the Shire’s monthly eNewsletters.
- Provide support in the development and publication of video content for the Shire’s digital channels.
**What you'll need to succeed**
**Essential Criteria**
- Tertiary qualifications in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or relevant experience.
- Excellent written communication skills, both analytical and creative.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Sound knowledge of marketing and public relations strategies.
- Significant experience in working with the media.
- Ability to prepare, edit and produce content for a range of publications and the mediums.
**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience in the use of Technology One system.
- Previous local government experience.
- Video editing skills.
- Previous experience using a Content Management System.
