About the role

We’re looking for an Observability Lead to drive the evolution of Tyro’s engineering culture through robust observability practices. In this role, you’ll lead a talented team to develop and maintain a platform that empowers our engineers with the tools, insights and capabilities to effectively monitor and operate their systems. Collaborating closely with engineering leadership, you’ll ensure the delivery of a secure, scalable and user-friendly toolchain while inspiring and motivating your team to achieve excellence.

What you'll do:
Manage the Observability Platform: Deliver scalable solutions to help teams monitor and understand their systems, support effective usage through training and documentation, and explore new trends in observability.

Champion Observability Practices: Advocate for and implement best practices across teams, share patterns to enhance knowledge, and ensure systems are measurable and maintain high quality.

Lead and Support the Observability Team: Guide team ceremonies, mentor team members, and manage work priorities to align with business goals while improving tools and practices.

Drive Continuous Improvement: Lead proofs of concept, engineering initiatives, and implementation projects to enhance the observability platform and delivery outcomes.

Promote Customer-Centric Insights: Collaborate with stakeholders to define customer experience metrics and create regular reporting that reflects service delivery levels.

Align with Business Goals: Plan and prioritise work to ensure the observability platform meets both engineering needs and overarching business objectives.

What you'll bring- Strong automation mindset, focused on building scalable, self-service solutions for engineering teams.- Demonstrated curiosity and eagerness to learn, with a proactive approach to solving problems across diverse technologies.- Proven ability to lead cross-team projects, aligning stakeholders and driving initiatives to successful outcomes.- Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Grafana (Loki, Tempo, Mimir), OpenTelemetry, PagerDuty, and Prometheus.- Proficiency in programming languages like GoLang, Java, and Python, with a strong technical foundation.- Expertise in cloud and containerisation technologies, including AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and GitHub.- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to provide guidance and advocate for best practices across teams.
