**About Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC)**: is the central facilitator of research funding in the University, taking advantage of the full diversity of research funding opportunities. RIC operates University-wide across all ten Academic Divisions and Chancellery.

**The University of Melbourne Genesis Pre-Seed Fund (the Fund)**: is part of an end-to-end funding support for University of Melbourne start-up companies, alongside the University of Melbourne Proof of Concept Scheme and the Tin Alley Ventures Fund.

The objective of the Fund is to facilitate research translation and student entrepreneurship more broadly by helping create investable University of Melbourne (UoM)-related start-up companies at the pre-seed stage.

The Fund, being established in conjunction with Breakthrough Victoria, will provide funding for early-stage research, ideas and new technologies and will facilitate access to University networks and mentoring to create seed-fund-ready companies. Up to 20% of this funding can be invested into social purpose ventures.

**Breakthrough Victoria**:is a Victorian Government-owned company that will provide eligible businesses with flexible forms of funding.

The resources will be dedicated to the local start-up ecosystem to develop homegrown talents. The fund will drive the commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) by providing the right conditions for the growth of existing businesses and innovation precincts.

**About the Role**
You will be a member of the Investment Team delivering on the Investment Mandate of the University of Melbourne Genesis Pre-Seed Fund, and responsible for building a strong pipeline of University of Melbourne-related technology & physical sciences start-up opportunities.

Your focus will be to develop emerging pre-seed stage opportunities into viable start-up companies that will support translation of University of Melbourne IP and are attractive start-up investment opportunities to seed stage+ Investors.

Responsibilities include:

- To source new investment proposals across the University of Melbourne’s research areas and build a strong, high-quality pipeline of opportunities
- Collaborate closely with researchers, students, colleagues and partners to develop potential investment opportunities
- Undertake effective promotion, networking and education activities to raise awareness, build capability and increase commercialisation
- Ensure the development of emerging pre-seed stage opportunities into viable start-up companies
- providing leadership and guidance to investee companies

**About You**
To be successful in this role, you will be experienced in research commercialisation and start-ups.

You will also have:

- post graduate degree in the relevant area of science, technology and/or business with demonstrated experience in commercialising University research, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education
- experience providing recommendations and advice at senior management, Investment Committee and Board level.
- start-up board experience to guide and assist founders and their early-stage technology companies to develop the business and achieve success
- venture capital investment management and commercialisation experience is highly desirable
- track record of working with researchers, students and other stakeholders to develop investable Deep Tech start-up events.
- proven ability to collaborate and deliver results in a complex organisation and/or a university environment.
