**The Role**
Working within Navy Training Force [TF]; TF is seeking a highly motivated, professional and enthusiastic individual to provide essential WHS risk management and governance support. This position will be responsible for planning, managing and governing the delivery of WHS compliance managements for Navy Training Authorities across Australia. The primary focus for the Work Health and Safety role is managing safety governance and assurance activities associated with the delivery of Training Force requirements in accordance with Defence safe systems of work.

The Work Health & Safety Team Leader role is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex work health and safety work within Training Force. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

The WHS Officer will engage with a wide variety of stakeholders on issues and be required to negotiate, influence stakeholders and make decisions in order to achieve business outcomes. In addition, the WHS Officer will provide oversight and coordination assistance of the WHS aspects of other Training Authorities across Australia for governance and reporting of WHS compliance. The WHS Officer will provide advice and take action as required regarding relevant legislation, Defence policy, industry best practice, and the status of compliance activities.

**About our Team**
The Business Enterprise Directorate [BED] is within TF Headquarters, Canberra and is key enabler to the centralisation and optimisation of Business Management functions across TF, including Work Health & Safety [WH&S] within the training environment. The WH&S Team is geographically located around Australia with regional areas of responsibility to support the safe delivery of world class training to our mariners.

Reporting to the Deputy Director Business and Resource Manager, this role has two positions reporting to it that are geographically based and will work with other team members who are geographically located elsewhere.

In this role, the Work Health & Safety Team Leader will require:

- A good working knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and practices in a complex shared duty environment.
- Experience maintaining and updating a complex WHS Management System.
- Collaborating with and providing well-structured advice to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Working with senior staff (designated as officers under S 27 of the WHS Act).
- Planning and prioritising work to tight deadlines and monitoring implementation of the work.
- Drawing appropriate insights from data, reports and analysis.
- Representing a WHS team at WHS related conversations, training and forums.
- Well-developed writing skills including briefs, reports, papers, and;
- Be proactive, resilient and organised.
