Palm Avenue School is a P3 specialist school, established in 2010 and is currently located within the grounds of Westmead Hospital. The sole function of the school is to deliver the NSW Centre for Effective Reading (NSW CER) program. The NSW CER program provides support to the whole child; cross sectoral, primary-aged students who have complex reading difficulties, and attend school in rural and remote settings. A team around the child.

The establishment of the NSW CER was a joint NSW Department of Education and NSW Health initiative to cater for eligible students attending government and non-government schools through a State-wide referral and placement panel process. In the past three years approximately 25% of students receiving direct support from the NSW CER are students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent.

Currently, through the NSW CER program, Palm Avenue School provides a reading intervention program to 140 students in their home school setting each year. Once accepted for direct service, students are allocated to one of four hubs, three of which are included in the staffing of Palm Avenue School (Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and Westmead) with an additional program provision delivered through Royal Far West School at Manly.

- Capacity to lead, refine and effectively deliver a cross-sectoral, multi-site educational provision.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, be visible and model a sustainable culture while leading a multi-disciplinary team.
- Deep understanding of cultural safety and high expectations, which promote highly effective educational practices that facilitate student success across rural and remote NSW.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
