**ABOUT THE GROUP AND DIVISIONS**
The role of Budget Group is integral to the work of the Australian Government and preparation of the Federal Budget. Budget Group provides strategic and detailed policy and financial advice to the Minister for Finance, other senior Ministers, Cabinet and its Committees, including the Expenditure Review Committee (ERC) and the National Security Committee (NSC).
Budget Group leads the operational delivery of the Budget and reports on expenditure to inform the Government’s strategies and ongoing management approach. The role of the Group also includes:
- Critically assessing and advising on new expenditure related policy proposals for Government consideration.
- Providing policy and financial advice to the Government to shape decision-making on whole-of-government matters.
- Taking a constructive leading role in the co-development and implementation of the Government’s strategic policy objectives with agencies across the Commonwealth.
- Using the latest available data and analytical methodologies to provide an evidence base for decision making.
- Drafting statements and input for publication in the Budget Papers.
- Maintaining accurate expenditure estimates.
The teams within Budget Group comprise:
- **Budget Policy and Coordination Division (BPCD)**: BPCD leads the annual whole-of-Government Budget process and works closely with Central Ministers and Central Agencies to influence fiscal policy and Budget decision-making. BPCD provides advice on whole of government policy issues and expenditure trends, budget strategies and requirements, and methodologies for compiling budget estimates. BPCD produces the Budget Process Operational Rules (agreed by Government), provides guidance to portfolio agencies on their input into budgetary processes, and includes the BFR data analytics team.
- **Agency Advice Units (AAUs)**: Each AAU provides policy and financial advice to the Minister for Finance and Government on a specific portfolio within Government. AAUs are responsible for assessing new policy proposals and providing advice to Government related to their respective portfolio. They also provide policy implementation and financial management advice to agencies within those portfolios.
- **Government and Defence Division**: Government and Defence Division (GDD) provides policy advice and financial analysis to Government on strategic Defence policy and acquisitions, intelligence issues, security, law and justice, foreign affairs, trade and overseas development assistance, immigration and border protection, territories, financial and economic regulation, revenue collection, superannuation and the central operations of the Executive government and the Parliament.
- **Industry, Education and Infrastructure Division**:Industry, Education and Infrastructure Division provides policy advice and financial analysis to Government on matters relating to the following portfolios:
- Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and the Arts
- Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
- Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
- Education
- Employment and Workplace Relations
- Industry, Science and Resources
- **Social Policy Division**:Social Policy Division provides policy advice and financial analysis to Government on matters relating to**:
- Health
- Aged Care
- Social Services including Disability Services
- Indigenous Australians
- Veterans’ Affairs
**ABOUT THE**
**OPPORTUNITY**
The EO, plays a critical role in facilitating work across Budget Group which provides targeted, strategic, and analytical advice to Government and supports the delivery of the budget across national security, foreign policy, defence and central government portfolios.
As the EO you will also be responsible for:
- directly supporting the Deputy Secretary or a First Assistant Secretary, including representing them in communications with internal and external stakeholders.
- anticipating and resolving potential barriers to the Group's workflow, including providing direction, clarification, and context for requests exercising foresight and the ability to plan and creatively solve problems.
- managing the timelines, consistency and quality of critical briefings and other material including Ministerial Correspondence and Briefs, Questions on Notice and ad hoc requests.
- building and maintaining strong working relationships and rapport with the senior leadership group and key stakeholders, including liaising with Ministers and their office staff and communicating with influence in order to progress decisions and deliverables.
