The Museums and Collections Department aims to build a collaborative and flexible network around the University’s exceptional collection and cultural assets, to enable students, staff members local and global communities to gain knowledge and understanding of contemporary and traditional cultures, scientific discovery and creative practice.

The Department is responsible for Buxton Contemporary, Science Gallery Melbourne, Ian Potter Museum of Art, Old Quadrangle Treasury, Mpavilion Parkville and the Grainger Museum, provides strategic oversight of the University Collection and includes BLAK C.O.R.E, a First Nations program and collective focused on systemic change.

The Position reports to the Director Museums and Collections.

**About the Role**
The Associate Director Art Museums includes Directorships of The Ian Potter Museum of Art, and Buxton Contemporary, and contributes to programs across the Department. The Art Museums team develops and delivers compelling exhibitions and events that put scholarship, arts practice and public engagement at the heart of the program, whilst ensuring strong collaboration with First Nations peoples.

The Associate Director Art Museums is responsible for building The University of Melbourne art collection, whilst ensuring the galleries are dynamic and embraced by communities.

As a member of the Museums and Collections Leadership team, The Associate Director, Art Museums will be an exceptional collaborator, working alongside colleagues to ensure an inclusive workplace and genuine collaboration with First Nations peoples.

**About You**
Your extensive experience and expertise as a Director/Head Curator in a university or major public gallery and proven record of delivering compelling exhibitions and programs with historic and contemporary objects and artworks, will also position you well for this impactful role.

Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate your experience:

- working in collaboration with First Nations artists, curators and Elders
- delivering exceptional exhibitions, programs and content within a tertiary environment and working in an academic or research capacity and/or integrating academic programs into public venues and working with multi-disciplinary teams
- highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and strong networks/relationships with national and international peers and artists, in the tertiary sector and arts communities
- exceptional leadership, relationship and team management skills, with the ability to build a compelling vision with strong buy-in from colleagues and boards
- strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to structure, engage and present information clearly and interestingly to diverse audiences including board members, donors and partners
- working collaboratively with students and ensuring audience outcomes are integrated into the curatorial vision and process
