About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system and for providing strategic advice and delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending.
What does Clinical Oversight and Rehabilitation do?
The Clinical Oversight and Rehabilitation unit is a state-wide team that sits within the Youth Justice Division. The unit is responsible for supporting the delivery of effective case management and clinical services to young people to reduce reoffending.
What does the Family Violence Practice Lead do?
As part of the state-wide team, you will deliver service provision within both Youth Justice (YJ) custody and community settings across the regions, complementing existing operational roles by providing specific family violence expertise.
You will have a critical role in supporting YJ case managers and custodial staff in building capability to proactively identify family violence, risk assessment and management under the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework.
You will engage in primary and secondary consultation with young people, their families, and care teams to support victim survivors and manage high risk young people using family violence to ensure alignment with the MARAM Framework, Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) and Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS).
The work location is based across the state with regular regional travel between Melbourne CBD office locations, custodial precincts, and community Youth Justice offices required.
What skills should a Family Violence Practice Lead have?
To be successful in this role you will build effective working relationships with operational teams and practice leaders as a trusted adviser in family violence.
- experience working with family violence victim survivors and/or perpetrators, including understanding of the MARAM framework, FVISS and CISS, and family violence services
- experience working with adolescents and children, including an understanding of the child protection and youth justice systems, and the interrelation between family violence and adolescent offending risk
- understanding of the impacts of family violence and needs of victim survivors and young people using family violence, including family violence dynamics and complexities
- ability to advocate and provide expert advice to practitioners and managers to strengthen family violence practice and manage family violence risk
- a full and current driver's licence.
A qualification in social work, psychology, youth work or a related field is also desirable.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
