**The Role**
In this role you will also provide technical support to the wet lab elements of sequencing such as sample preparation and will therefore need experience working at the Physical Containment 2 (PC2) level. You will also assist in delivering training to operational elements of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
**About our Team**
Sensors and Effectors Division (SED), as part of Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), applies science and technology to the capability analysis, development and operation of sensor and effector systems of relevance to the ADF.
The key roles of the Biodetection and Diagnostics Team is the assessment and development of field-able detection and diagnostic technologies for the ADF. This includes Next Generation Sequencing, nucleic acid amplification methods, immunoassays and other innovative emerging technologies.
- The analysis of NGS data including experience with short and long read (nanopore) data, and hybrid assembly.
- The use and understanding of different taxonomy classifier tools.
- Working in a Linux environment, scripting e.g., Python, R and demonstrated ability to develop bioinformatics workflows/pipelines.
- The installation of complex software, databases and working in a secure offline computing environment.
- Laboratory experience in nucleic acid sequencing including sample and library preparation, and analysis using DNA sequencing platforms.
- Working in a PC2 laboratory, including adhering to legislation such as WHS, Biosecurity and Security Sensitive Biological Agents (SSBA).
- Delivering training and knowledge transfer to other staff and stakeholders.
- Verbal and written communication, working in teams and effective time management.
