**The Role**
Are you interested in capability analysis to inform strategic-level direction and advice on Defence preparedness to defend Australia and its national interests? Do you want to make a difference linked to the outcomes of the Defence Strategic Review (DSR)? Defence preparedness needs to evolve, accelerate, and be fit for purpose with the outcomes identified in the DSR and subsequent Defence assessments. As a Preparedness Assurance Officer or Preparedness Management Officer you will contribute to ensuring Defence’s preparedness now and into the future.

The Force Exploration Branch (FEB) is seeking an APS6 Preparedness Assurance Officer to support the Directorate of Defence Preparedness. As part of a high performing team, you will require excellent strategic awareness, communication, analysis and stakeholder engagement skills. These roles will develop strategic-level direction and advice on Defence preparedness to defend Australia and its national interests. They are an opportunity to work with strategy, risk, plans and the generation of forces to support senior Defence decision-makers. Duties include drafting high-quality analyses and recommendations, understanding Defence strategy and processes, collaborating, building effective relationships, independent analysis of complex issues and contributing to the work of a team.

Preparedness is central to Defence’s core business, ensuring Defence have quality forces prepared to successfully deliver across our Shape, Deter and Respond objectives. Managing and driving Defence Preparedness is complex, challenging at times, but also rewarding. Given the complexity and centrality of our core business, the Defence Preparedness team sits within the strategic Centre of Defence.

Defence Preparedness Directorate team members produce analysis and briefs individually and collectively, and reports to senior military officers and develops agendum papers for senior Defence committees and ministerial submissions.

Defence preparedness management generates the direction for prepared forces, then drives activities, action and performance - while identifying associated risk - in achieving those directed outcomes. Simply, the Defence Preparedness team assures Government that Defence can meet directed expectations. This means relationships, communication, systems thinking (and integration) are critical components in successfully managing preparedness.
- Possess excellent communication and information skills, including strong Capability Analyst written and verbal skills.
- Be able to harness information and think strategically about risks and priorities to the whole of Defence preparedness.
- Use your interpersonal skills to maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.

Additionally, the ideal APS6 Preparedness Assurance Officer will also:

- Be highly skilled in quality analysis of mixed data sets, and insights of complex analytical problems in preparedness.
- Drive results, identify and develop new stakeholder relationships and negotiate with confidence.
