**Who we are**
The
**Australian Antarctic Division (AAD)** is part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.

These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
- protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic, and national significance.

The AAD has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands.

The
**Assets and Infrastructure Branch** provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the AAP. This ranges from maintenance of existing assets through to developing or procuring new assets and capability.

**The job**
As the Branch Head for the Assets and Infrastructure Branch, you will be responsible for:

- leading a whole of government approach to the development and management of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic assets and infrastructure
- ensuring best practice full lifecycle asset management
- leading and managing major project inception, delivery and integration with existing systems
- contributing to advancing Australia’s national Antarctic interests through the Antarctic Treaty system and related agreements, including protecting and conserving the environment and living resources of the region
- guiding and delivering key elements of the Australian Antarctic Division’s strategic direction consistent with the Australian Antarctic Strategy and 20 Year Action Plan
- building a capable and strong workforce that delivers on organisational priorities
- collaborating and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to shape services and solutions in line with evolving strategic priorities
- fostering a high-functioning culture, whilst focusing on continuous improvement of employee and organisational performance
- representing the organisation at external forums, meetings, governance committees and in high-level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders and external organisations
- providing high quality advice and supporting the senior executive within the AAD and the organisation more broadly in relation to the Division’s assets and infrastructure

promoting integrity practices by displaying a high level of ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, APS Values and APS Employment Principles

**What we are looking for**
To be successful for this role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service (SES) capability for the SES Band 1, and you will have the following:

- Demonstrated achievement in successfully developing and guiding asset and infrastructure work through government processes, including high level negotiation.
- Demonstrated leadership of a team managing assets, infrastructure, or equivalent work.
- Experience in working across government agencies.
- Ability to demonstrate your collaboration and agility with a proven record of delivering high quality and innovative financial management outcomes in a complex, politically sensitive, and operationally diverse environment.
- Ability to drive broad transformational change internal to the department.
- Outstanding leadership skills, a substantial record of achievement and a reputation for innovation and delivery of results.
- Excellent stakeholder relationship skills and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to explore opportunities and solve complex problems.
- Ability to represent the department at a range of national and international forums.
- Demonstrating a strategic perspective and ability to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all audiences, be articulate and persuasive and capable of guiding negotiations to a point of resolution in a facilitative way.
- Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity.

- This position requires a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
