The South Australian Government is committed to creating a fairer and more inclusive and knowledgeable society for the autistic and autism communities. The Office for Autism has been established within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and will lead a dedicated whole-of-Government approach.

Reporting to the Director, Office for Autism, the Principal Community Engagement Officer is responsible for designing, developing and managing the Government’s engagement and consultation approach with the autistic and autism communities that will inform the development of innovative initiatives, programs and projects to create a fairer and more inclusive and knowledgeable society for the autistic and autism communities.

Key outcomes of this role include:

- designing and managing high profile public engagement programs and activities with significant community and media interest;
- developing a range of strategies including digital and non-digital tools that promote and support participation and engagement of the autistic and autism communities;
- developing and monitoring projects by preparing project briefs; planning, researching and developing plans; evaluating and reporting on project outcomes;
- developing effective collaborations with key stakeholders across government, non-government organisations and the autistic and autism communities;
- representing the Office for Autism on inter-agency committees, working parties and non-government committees and forums.
