Overview:
As a Community Access Support Worker, you will be instrumental in facilitating access to the community for our client, who requires assistance with transportation and communication. Your role will involve providing transportation in a vehicle that accommodates a wheelchair, ensuring our client can participate in various activities and appointments. Additionally, you will engage in meaningful interactions with our client, who communicates through written notes, to foster social connection and support.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide safe and reliable transportation for our client using a vehicle equipped to accommodate a wheelchair, preferably with a spacious trunk for additional storage.
- Assist our client in accessing community resources, such as medical appointments, recreational activities, and social outings, while ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
- Maintain flexibility in your schedule to accommodate both regular and last-minute shifts, adapting to our client's changing needs and preferences.
- Engage in conversation with our client, who communicates through written notes, to facilitate social interaction and companionship during transportation and community outings.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment by actively listening to our client, respecting their communication preferences, and promoting their independence and autonomy.
- Collaborate with our client's support team, including caregivers and healthcare professionals, to ensure continuity of care and adherence to individualized plans and goals.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting our client's privacy and dignity in every interaction.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle that can accommodate a wheelchair, preferably with ample storage space.
- Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to work both regular and last-minute shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage in conversation and maintain rapport with our client, who communicates through written notes.
- Empathy, patience, and a compassionate demeanor to support our client's unique needs and challenges with sensitivity and understanding.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is preferred but not required.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic situations, problem-solve effectively, and remain calm under pressure while prioritizing our client's safety and well-being.
**Job Types**: Subcontract, Casual
Pay: $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 - 20 per week
Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
Licence/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (preferred)
- Working with Children Check (preferred)
- National Police Certificate (preferred)
- Driver Licence (preferred)
Work Authorisation:
- Australia (preferred)
