**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
These goals are to:
- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
- protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.
The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.
The Assets and Technology (A&T) Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the AAP. A&T Branch activities range from the maintenance of existing Antarctic stations and equipment through to the design, manufacture, testing, operation and procurement of advanced scientific equipment and systems. The Branch manages major infrastructure projects in support of AAP outcomes.
The Infrastructure Delivery Section is a key element of the A&T Branch and is responsible for the construction of the built infrastructure at Australia’s Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations. The section carries out construction activities at the Antarctic and Sub Antarctic stations and a project management group at the AAD’s head office in Kingston, Tasmania. It works closely with other sections within the branch to support the design, operation and maintenance of all station infrastructure.
**The Job**
The Communications & Stakeholder Coordinator will be responsible for the development of the project communications and stakeholder engagement strategies, planning and delivery of associated communications and engagement activities for major infrastructure projects. The position will provide communications advice and input into project activities, key milestones and events, and support project team members with their respective stakeholder engagement responsibilities.
This position will work alongside internal and external staff reporting to the Project Lead to deliver communications and stakeholder management components of the planning, design and construction of AAD major infrastructure projects. The position will also work closely with the AAD Outreach, Media and Communications team to ensure that project communication activities align with the strategic communication priorities and processes of the AAD and the broader department.
This position requires an individual with good interpersonal skills, who is well organised, adaptable and flexible with high level coordination skills, and the ability to produce work at the required level, often in tight timeframes
**Skills and Capabilities**
- Develop, maintain and implement the Communications Engagement plan and sub-plans for the project.
- Utilise high-level interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills to effectively engage in managing the communication requirements of the project.
- Develop innovative communications strategies and associated engagement programs to support the project with particular regard to key Project milestones and events, and the development and maintenance of strong stakeholder relationships.
- Be responsible for the development of communications products for the project including (but not limited to): printed materials; press releases; web stories; social media products; Project website pages; articles for targeted publications (Antarctic magazine, specialist media); video packages; info graphics and other collateral.
- Manage the project stakeholder registers and stakeholder engagement registers, identifying and where possible, understanding stakeholder issues, interests and concerns.
- Monitor media and social media coverage, and public commentary associated with the project and coordinate handling strategies with project team members in response to media coverage and public commentary.
- Using well developed time-management capability, maintain weekly reporting on status of project communication activities, stakeholder engagement and related risks and develop mitigation strategies as required.
- Work with a small, high performing multi-disciplinary project team working to tight timeframes while adapting to be responsive to project and organisational needs.
- Assist with other duties as required for the project, including development of official briefing materials and project documentation, risk management and workplace health and safety.
