**About the role**
Working within local council to ensure animal welfare and safety through annual inspections of licenses and compliance relating to the allowable number of animals allowed on properties.
Duties include:
- Conduct annual inspections of license and approval holders to ensure compliance with State legislation, Local Laws and conditions of an approval.
- Conduct approved and gazetted systematic inspection programs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation relating to domestic animal keeping. Specifically, following up on overdue registration and identification of new and unregistered cats and dogs across the City.
- Create specific approval conditions relating to the prescribed activities being undertaken on a property.
- Gather clear, factual, and impartial evidence, affording natural justice to all parties.
- Carry out thorough history checks on properties to determine previous breaches of legislation and prescribed activity. Where breaches are detected ensure a reliable body of evidence has been built that shows there is a clear case to answer.
- Undertake appropriate enforcement action for non-complaint approval and licence holders.
- Regularly liaise with external stakeholders to ensure alignment with stakeholder minimum standards, relevant legislation, or conditions of approval.
**About you**
- Cert IV in Investigations and/or animal management highly regarded.
- Well-developed knowledge and extensive practical experience consulting and advising on domestic animals.
- Demonstrated ability to formulate concise and accurate written reports and correspondence. Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work autonomously to prioritise.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and act tactfully in sensitive situations.
- Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to change with a desire to deliver quality outcomes.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and a commitment to follow direction and instruction and work within established policies and procedures relative to the position and exercise initiatives accordingly. Commitment to Risk Management and Workplace Health and Safety with a demonstrated ability to assess risk.
