About the Role:
The Origination team is part of the renewable energy and carbon trading function within AGL’s Integrated Energy division. This role will be responsible for securing both short and long term commercial agreements for renewable power, battery agreements, and/or carbon. The role requires a high degree of autonomy and a strategic approach to negotiations and effective relationship management to advance AGL’s strategic objectives and manage portfolio risks in line with AGL’s climate transition goals.

The Originator role offers an opportunity to develop your capability through leading smaller negotiations. As your experience and capability grows, opportunities to lead larger negotiations will develop in order to progress to a Senior Originator role.

What you’ll be doing:

- Originating contracting opportunities to fulfill AGL’s strategic objectives to transition to a low carbon portfolio
- Support contract negotiations for power purchase agreements, offtake agreements, complex customer sales contracting
- Build and maintain relationships with market participants, customers, project developers and market operators
- Providing guidance to other teams across Integrated Energy, Trading and Treasury Risk, Corporate Development and Finance in order to manage the entire deal lifecycle, from opportunity identification to negotiations and post-execution activities
- Support complex and bespoke negotiations, document transactions and implementation of commercial arrangements.
- Develop business cases to support transactions with the support of the analytical team
- Managing supply agreements existing in the portfolio, including enhancing processes to enforce contract specifications and resolve conflict where breaches or non-compliance occur.
- Identify and develop opportunities for AGL to expand its activities in existing markets

About You:
You will ideally have an understanding of the Australian power market and the drivers behind renewable power, battery agreements, and/or carbon contracting arrangements, which has been gained through your experience in domestic and/or international commercial power and/or carbon markets. The ability to build strong relationships with both customers and project developers will be essential.

- Experience leading complex negotiations in the energy market will be highly considered
- The ability to identify and create contracting opportunities to support AGL’s goal of transitioning to a low carbon portfolio.
- The ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships at all levels
- Mental agility and the ability to understand complex analytical concepts
- Advanced communication, interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the power market and risk management
- Extensive negotiation, contract development and contract management experience. Familiarity with large complex contracts (any industry) is beneficial.
