**Overview**

The **Women’s & Children’s Health Network** provides state of the art health care for women, babies, children and young people across South Australia. We are the state’s leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions as well as being South Australia’s largest maternity and obstetric service, and statewide Maternal Fetal Medicine service.

Our community-based services also reach hundreds of thousands of babies, children and young people, their families and communities across South Australia through our various services and programs in areas such as our Mental Health, Child & Family Health services, Youth Health and Aboriginal Health services.

Our maternity and neonatal services include care delivery, health information and education as well as support and advice to women and their families during pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal and neonatal period.

These services are provided at a primary, secondary and tertiary level. The Division also provides gynaecological services at a primary, secondary and tertiary level.

The Obstetric Service offers a multidisciplinary approach to many obstetric (pregnancy and childbirth) conditions, and includes the High Risk Perinatal Service, Antenatal Diagnostic and Counselling Service (ADACS) and a Fetal-Maternal Service.

**The Opportunity**

An exciting career opportunity exists within **Women’s and Babies - Obstetrics** to join us as the **Medical Unit Head.**

**Primary Objective(s) of role**:

- The Head of Obstetrics is responsible for the leadership and management of high quality inpatient, outpatient and community Obstetric Services.
- The Head of Obstetrics is responsible for ensuring that clients’ functional levels are restored or managed using evidence based best practice.
- The Obstetric Service works within the philosophy that the health of women is enhanced and promoted through providing evidence based specialized care, research, education and health promotion in line with the South Australian government and WCHN strategic directions.
- The Obstetric Service provides services with compassion and respect for the dignity of women, equal access to services regardless of ethnic, cultural or religious beliefs. The service provides leadership and a reference centre, establishes, maintains, supports and fosters relationships with other organisations with similar and complementary roles and functions.
