**About the role**

Working in an in-house environment and under the direction and guidance of the Manager Legal Services (Employment and Public Law), NHVR has a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned legal expert to join our team.

The Principal Legal Officer will work closely with the Manager to provide critical high level employment related legal advice, which can range from advising on employment conditions, obligations and risks as well as advising on and appearing in contested matters and employment disputes. You will also provide advice to NHVR stakeholders on public law matters to ensure compliance with current law and legislation including privacy, right to information and governance. You will be expected to draft a variety of legal documents, resolve complex legal issues and achieve results through commercial acumen.

No day is the same as the roles are part of a busy, hardworking and collaborative legal team with work ranging from the complex to the less complex. This is a hands on role where you will be liaising with a diverse range of stakeholders, developing strong client relationships and appearing in Courts/Tribunals/Commissions as and when required.

Working with a family friendly team with flexible work from home arrangements, the positions can be based in Brisbane, Parramatta, Melbourne, Adelaide or Launceston. Interstate or intrastate travel may be required as part of the role.

**About You**

As a minimum for this role, you will need:

- To be admitted as a legal practitioner of the High Court or Supreme Court of a State or Territory;
- Demonstrated experience, at least 3 - 5 years, as a legal practitioner with a specific focus or either employment and/or public law;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to think and act proactively.

You will demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, motivation as well as an ability to work with minimum supervision and contribute to the achievement of team goals. The ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment with multiple competing priorities and deadlines is essential.

Along with your excellent communication skills, your ability to effectively negotiate and liaise with diverse stakeholders and your ability to maintain these relationships will see you thrive in this role. You will display strong time management skills and a positive attitude when under pressure.
