Legal Officer
to cover a maternity leave contract, with genuine scope for the right person to go permanent as the function expands.
Why you'll love it
- Real flexibility:
design your week around life (school runs, late starts/finishes, occasional evening hours if that suits you). - Variety & impact:
a busy portfolio across contracts, compliance and investigations in highly regulated environments. - Supportive leadership:
you'll have direct access to the General and Assistant General Counsel, and a thorough handover to set you up for success. - Career runway:
likely team growth over 12 months; future pathways into Compliance or broader Legal depending on your interests and skillset.
What you'll do -
Compliance / Legal / Admin
Compliance (40%)
- Subcontractor due diligence:
first-line checks on licences, insurances and rates; issue questionnaires, audit evidence and manage non-compliant applicants where required. - Information requests & discovery:
triage subpoenas / RFIs (e.g., police or regulator requests), coordinate CCTV and document retrieval, and act as support person for staff interviews where needed. - Government & regulator responses:
partner with HR and Operations to collate data and prepare returns, stats and reports.
Legal (40%)
- Contract review & risk spotting:
first-pass review using pro-forma sheets (liability, price, scope), escalate key issues, and help ensure signed copies are correctly stored and accessible. - Litigation support:
gather facts, timelines and witness notes for the Legal Counsel, interview staff and assemble brief packs. - Issue triage:
assist with complaints and discrimination matters, and provide practical, business-minded guidance to senior managers.
Admin & systems (20%)
- E-filing discipline:
bring the matter files up to scratch and keep them there. - Simple finance admin:
help the team stay current on expenses/credit card reconciliations. - Process tidy-ups:
spot inefficiencies, fix them, provide new, better ways of working.
You'll be great in this role if you:
- Are a
capable career paralegal or early-career lawyer
who enjoys breadth over narrow specialisation. - Bring
in-house pragmatism
and can juggle varied workflows without the "that's not my job" mindset. - Are
confident with stakeholders,
from site managers to senior leaders - and can translate legal risk into easy to understand language. - Have
broad legal experience - a true in-house role, it's extremely varied.
- Have exposure to
regulated or complex environments
(security, facilities, construction, healthcare, airports or gaming a plus). - Can manage
discovery/subpoenas
, contract admin, and evidence collation with care and speed. - Are organised, curious and
un-precious - happy to pitch in on admin to keep the machine humming.
The offer
- 12-month fixed-term contract
with possibility of permanency as the team scales. - Hybrid working (3 office / 2 WFH) +
true flexibility
in start/finish times. - $80k–$110k + Super
, depending on experience. - Although the role is
5 days / week, our client would consider a 4 day week
(pro-rata) for an outstanding candidate. - Ongoing
mentoring, training
and a
down-to-earth team
that values common sense, candor and good banter.
If you are a career paralegal/in-house legal officer looking for the next move, or a legal grad with a few years in-house under your belt, this could be the right career opportunity for you
