We have partnered with a leading state government department playing a crucial role in the urban planning and development sectors. This role is within the Corporate, Planning & Environment team, tasked with providing specialised legal services related to planning and environmental matters.

**Your new role**

As a Lawyer in the Corporate, Planning & Environment team, you will:

- Offer legal advice and support on planning and environmental matters under the supervision of the General Counsel and the line manager.
- Manage and coordinate external legal advisors as necessary.
- Represent the department in VCAT or court proceedings, aiding external legal advisors and counsel.
- Collaborate across the organisation to identify, advise on, and manage legal risks tied to past, present, and future business activities.
- Draft, review, and manage legal documentation and precedents.
- Deliver legal training to various business units.
- Advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting business.

**What you'll need to succeed**

To excel in this role, you will require:

- A tertiary qualification in Law and a valid Practicing Certificate.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in planning and environment law, administrative law, property law, contracts, civil procedure, and litigation.
- Advanced negotiation, drafting, case management, and problem-solving skills.
- A commercial mindset that aligns legal advice with the public interest.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, external advisors, and stakeholders at all levels.
