The Destination Events Leader is responsible for the strategic management and leveraging of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) to build a unique and diverse calendar that markets key experiences across the state.
This temporary opportunity is for an 18 month period.
Key duties
- Execute initiatives identified within the TEQ Event Strategy 2032 and Towards Tourism 2032, as they relate to Destination Events.
- Takes an industry centric approach to support Queensland's events industry to optimise outcomes and grow the value of events in Queensland.
- Oversee the QDEP process including all operational and administrative aspects.
- Oversee legal and contractual matters relating to QDEP events.
- Develop, manage and maintain strategic relationships with event proponents, governing bodies, promoters, sponsors and advocates, QLD Government agencies, RTOs, Councils, third party event companies and suppliers and venue owners and managers
- Manage the workflow, and provide leadership, mentoring, support and guidance to direct reports.
- Participate in work activities outside of normal business hours including in the evenings and on the weekend and undertake domestic and on occasion international travel as required.

Skills and Experience

**For this role, we will consider your**:

- Highly developed people and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the regional, national and international events landscape with experience managing an event investment program.
- Well-developed understanding of legal and contractual requirements with the ability to negotiate commercial contracts.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking and planning skills with experience in event development.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders with the ability to recognise and deal with politically sensitive and confidential issues.

There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however a degree in Arts, Business, Tourism, Event Management or related discipline is highly regarded.
