Blind Sports WA (BSWA) has an opportunity for a passionate and energetic person to join our supportive team. We are looking for someone who loves developing and building the lives of children through the delivery of sport and recreation.

The role of the program facilitator is to deliver the Telethon sponsored “Lets get visible” weekly after-school program to enable blind and vision impaired children to experience and develop their skills through sport and recreation. We are looking for one or more facilitators to be part of our team.

The program is currently active in three locations in the Perth metro area, Joondalup, Cockburn and alternating between Mandurah/Rockingham. Each program runs for an 8-week term for a 1 x hour session during the school term, working up to 15 hours/week. Additional hours are available at our 4 full-day school holiday program in the April, June & Sept/ School holidays. While availability to assist with the holiday sessions is not essential for this role, it would be highly desirable.

Key duties:

- Deliver a weekly activity program focusing on the development of physical gross motor skills.
- Provide appropriate supervision of the children to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
- Deliver coaching and instruction to educate the participants on taking part in the sport or activity.
- Monitor and evaluate the participation in the program and report on the progress toward positive outcomes.
- Capture any good news stories and highlights to assist in the promotion and growth of the program.

Key skills:

- Suitably qualified in a relative field of: Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, Personal training, Teaching, coaching or physical education.
- Experience with working with children with disabilities desired, but not essential.
- Knowledge and experience with the delivery of physical education programs or personal training.
- Ability to report and evaluate the progress of the program.
- Ability to adapt and change to suit individual needs within the program as appropriate.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with an understanding of the barriers to participation for people with disability in sport.
- Ability to build connections and relationships with parents, families and carers.

Key Requirements:

- Working with children check
- Police clearance
- Child protection training (organised by BSWA)
- Driver’s license and own transport
- First aid

Highly Desirable:

- Understanding of blindness and vision impairment
- Good time management skills
- Mental health first aid
- Report writing
