**About the department**:
The Department of Paediatrics is part of the Medical Services Division. The Inpatient Paediatric Ward on 2 west is a 16 bed unit comprising of medical and surgical patients. Medical patients have general paediatric, endocrine, epilepsy, and eating disorders. Surgical patients have general, ENT, orthopaedics, plastics ophthalmology and maxillofacial surgery.

The Emergency Department has a separate dedicated Paediatric Emergency area including its own waiting room, 6 cubicles, paediatric procedure room and nursing staff. Children under the age of 19 are managed in the paediatric ED. A wide range of medical and surgery problems including acute injuries present. Austin Health is a quaternary referral centre for Acute Spinal Injuries, some of which are adolescents.

The Department of Paediatrics has a role in undergraduate teaching and is closely affiliated with the University of Melbourne. General paediatrics is a broad based multidisciplinary specialty, which provides expert diagnosis, treatment and care for infants, children and young people aged up to 19 years.

As the **Paediatrician** you will be responsible for providing expert paediatric care in an inpatient and outpatient settings within a multidisciplinary team, supervising registrars in Paediatric Medicine, and participating in teaching and training opportunities. Provision of cover for consultant leave may be requested, but no regular on call.

**To be successful for this role you must**:

- Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent
- Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Paediatric Medicine
- Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care
- Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum, and
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, training and research.
