**About the role**

As Principal - Environment, you'll use your technical expertise and strategic insight to guide Origin’s environmental approach on sub-disciplines, including air, biodiversity, land, water, and rehabilitation. Reporting to the Head of Environment, you'll drive our environmental strategy, support the HSE Management System, and advise senior leaders on complex issues. This leadership role includes mentoring for future executive pathways, setting frameworks, leading investigations, overseeing compliance, and ensuring Origin meets its legal, social, and environmental obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

- Providing expert guidance across Origin’s most complex environmental challenges
- Partnering with the business to identify risks, define critical controls, and design impactful environmental strategies
- Shaping the HSE Management System and maintaining alignment with evolving regulation and industry best practice
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external bodies—from regulators to research partners
- Mentoring and uplifting the environmental capability across the business
- Contributing to key decisions that impact Origin’s long-term sustainability and environmental performance.

**What will you bring?**

You will be an environmental professional with proven experience, ideally in energy or a similar high-risk industry. You’ll bring robust technical expertise, strong strategic thinking, and a calm, solutions-focused mindset. You will be confident in your ability to influence senior leaders, navigate regulatory landscapes, and lead with integrity in fast-moving, high-impact situations. You’ll also bring:

- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- A sharp eye for identifying emerging trends and legislation, and a proactive approach to incorporating them into organisational systems
- Experience in leading investigations, engaging with regulators, and managing cross-functional improvement initiatives
- Ability to travel interstate as required to various site.
