About the Role

Key responsibilities

Manage day-to-day tasks related to external reviews in line with the RTI Act and IP Act, under the guidance of a delegated decision maker.
Maintain accurate file records and ensure timely progression of reviews.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders via phone and in writing to gather information, clarify issues, and promote resolution.
Build rapport and maintain professional relationships with applicants, agencies, and other parties involved in the review process.
Identify and analyse key legal and factual issues with consideration for participant interests and the role of the Information Commissioner.
Conduct statutory interpretation and legal research to inform review strategies and support decision-making.
Brief delegated decision makers with concise, well-researched summaries of findings and legal considerations.
Draft clear and accessible reasons for decision and preliminary view correspondence in Plain English.
Collaborate with colleagues to resolve complex matters and contribute to a cohesive team environment.
Support organisational learning by contributing to internal knowledge management resources and documenting precedents.

About OIC

The OIC plays an important role in Queensland's integrity framework and is an independent statutory body that reports to Parliament. Our vision is building trust through transparency.

We have statutory functions and powers under the RTI and IP Acts to uphold greater and easier access to information held by government agencies.

We also assist agencies to understand their obligations under the RTI and IP Acts and use our regulatory powers to improve compliance. We are accountable and report to Parliament on our operational performance and regulatory activities.
