**About the role**
The Land, Planning & Environment team is a multidisciplinary team that provides technical specialist services. We drive exceptional environmental, planning, sustainability, and urban design outcomes by being adaptive to challenges and collaborating across NELP, with our stakeholders and the community. We are responsible for obtaining statutory approvals for the project, as well as secondary consents for packages. We manage key relationships with EPA Victoria, Heritage Victoria, DEECA, Melbourne Water, Councils, Department of Defence, OVGA, Wurundjeri Land Council and DCCEEW. We bring technical expertise to navigate project approvals, deliver land for the project and support businesses and sporting clubs in relocation.
The environment team is responsible for complying with state and federal environmental approvals and conditions for North East Link as well as achieving North East Link's Sustainability Vision. You will utilise your acquired knowledge of NELP’s approved Environmental Management Framework, project approvals and general legislative requirements to provide specialist environment advice to ensure compliance in the field of ecology and/or arboriculture. You will be encouraged to utilise your expertise to provide recommendations to improve outcomes.

- Providing technical support to the matrixed Environment Advisors and broader project team on matters related to ecology and arboriculture.
- Working collaboratively with matrixed Environment Advisors and the Environmental Management System Team to ensure the relevant obligations outlined in NELP’s approved Environmental Management Framework and Environmental Performance Requirements are met consistently across the North East Link Program.
- Tracking and monitor impacts to trees and native vegetation across the project, as well as NELPs extensive tree planting program.
- Liaising with external stakeholders such as DEECA and DCCEEW to obtain, track, and monitor state performance with planning and environment approvals & statutory obligations.
- Working with Councils and other stakeholders to identify and secure planting opportunities.
- Conducting reviews of contractor documentation including management plans, monthly reports, and Independent Environmental Auditor (IEA) audit reports, to actively monitor contractor compliance and performance.
- Preparing internal memorandums, process flowcharts, guidance documents, PowerPoint presentations, and reports relevant to ecological requirements and considerations.
**About you**
- Strong communication and negotiation skills which allows you to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to progress NELPs tree planting commitments and manage on-site impacts
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex environmental problems, provide expert recommendations and improve outcomes.
- Multitasking ability to manage stakeholders, determine best practise solutions, maintain NELPs registers, and deliver accurate advice to ensure requirements are being met across the project.
- A background or experience in ecology/arboriculture is highly desirable.
**This role is a 2-year fixed-term position** and is currently based at Melbourne CBD however time spent at a site office may be required from time to time.
