We’re seeking a skilled and passionate **Venue Operations Officer** to oversee the technical and operational delivery of Council’s cultural venues. This is a role that ensures every event is executed with excellence, safety, and creativity.

You will have the opportunity to work with the community and professional producers for events across Williamstown Town Hall, Altona Theatre and Old Laverton School.

Working within the Venues Unit, the position facilitates, develops, and delivers a diverse calendar of events and programs across the city in support of community, cultural, economic and visitor outcomes. The successful applicant will work with a broad range of stakeholders through partnerships, advocacy, planning and delivery.

You will have a strong background in venue or theatre management, live events and client management. Experience in production or stage management and event delivery is required for the role.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with production experience, passion for supporting programs, events and community, who would like to contribute to making Hobsons Bay a wonderful place to live, work and visit. This role will primarily involve work during normal business hours, but may also require some work outside of these hours.

**What You’ll Be Working On**
- Build and maintain supportive relationships with venue users from enquiry to evaluation.
- Provide expert technical and operational guidance to ensure successful event delivery.
- Lead and roster a skilled team across a 7-day schedule, including evenings.
- Support employees to maintain high-quality operations and compliance.
- Identify and address training needs to build team capability.
- Engage and supervise contractors to meet venue standards.
- Manage venue presentation and maintenance in line with Council and community expectations.
- Oversee technical systems, equipment use, and production development within budget.
- Monitor daily operations and ensuring timely resolution of facility and safety issues.
- Stay ahead of technology trends to enhance service delivery.
- Provide specialist advice across the department.

- Proven leadership experience, including staff supervision and contractor engagement.

**What you need to succeed**
- **Qualifications & Knowledge**: Tertiary qualifications in Facility, Operational or Production Management (or related discipline), plus practical experience in venue and event environments.
- **Leadership & Team Management**: Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and support staff and contractors across multiple locations and schedules.
- **Technical Expertise**: Strong knowledge in production management, event operations, and venue technical systems, with high-level computer skills.
- **Risk & Compliance**: Demonstrated experience in OHS, risk assessment, and ensuring compliance with legislation and Council policies.
- **Communication & Problem Solving**: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and resolve complex issues.
