**The Role**
An exciting opportunity exists for an APS5 Formation Safety Advisor (FSA) within the South Australian Army Cadet Brigade (SA AAC Bde), a community based youth development organisation focused on the Australian Army customs, traditions and values. You will be accountable under limited direction to undertake complex work health and Youth Safety activities and tasks, and to work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with AACs mission and business objectives.
You will be part of an experienced, dedicated team and will have the authority and discretion to exercise initiative and judgement to achieve results. The APS5 FSA role will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members of equal or lower classification.
You may at times supervise a small operational team and will be expected to be capable of reviewing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work group.
The APS 5 FSA position will be required to engage with relevant stakeholders to identify expectations and concerns and develop a clear understanding of the issues to achieve outcomes. The FSA is the conduit for the daily management of Brigade work health and youth safety requirements with the Headquarters Australian Army Cadets, in Canberra.
They will also be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement, professional development and fostering a learning culture within the work health and safety environment of the AAC.
**About our Team**
Supporting the conduct of the South Australian AAC Bde activities, the SA AAC Bde is responsible for the management and support of some 800 cadets operating from 30 Community and School Based Units across the state.
***The SA AAC Bde Headquarters is predominantly staffed by Army Reserve personnel managing the functions of operations, personnel, training and logistics, working to the Brigade Commander, an Army Reserve Colonel, and under the direction of the Deputy Commander, an Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel.
The fulltime staff of the headquarters comprises: an EL1 Executive Officer, the APS5 FSA, a Regular Army Operations Warrant Officer and an APS4 Business Support Officer. The Brigade also consists of Army Cadet Staff (ACS), who are the adult volunteer group that delivers the youth development program. ACS wear a military uniform but are not required to hold military qualifications.
The Cadets range from the age of 13, when they enter the Australian Army Cadets, to 18, when they ‘retire’ from the program. The FSA will have ongoing and frequent interaction with all of these groups within the Brigade, including interaction with Cadets during key activities and events.
Hold a Cert 4 in Workplace Health and Safety and be familiar with the Defence Youth Safety Framework and youth safety requirements as they pertain to Cadets. Have the ability to engage with relevant stakeholders to identify expectations and concerns and develop a clear understanding of the issues to achieve outcomes.
Will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement, professional development and fostering a learning culture within the work health and safety environment of the AAC. Will enjoy working flexibly within a team on key priorities, will display persistence, resilience and strong interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate an ability to deliver results.
