Principal Council Officer
We are looking for passionate, high performing policy professionals who excel at writing and will thrive in a unique environment, project managing parliamentary inquiries for Upper House committees.
**About us**
The Department of the Legislative Council is a dynamic, collaborative and positive workplace. As an organisation, we are committed to providing impartial advice and support to all Members of the Legislative Council, to enable them to fulfil their parliamentary duties. Our staff are passionate about the democratic process and pride themselves on ensuring the public can be involved and engaged in parliamentary activities.
Our department values and invests in its people. Our 2024 People Matter Survey results showed that 78% of our staff would recommend the Legislative Council as a great place to work. This is 20% higher than the rest of the public sector. Our rates for employee engagement (77%) and job satisfaction (84%) are also both significantly higher than the rest of the public sector.
**About the position**
We are seeking three highly motivated, efficient and experienced professionals to join our vibrant and dynamic committee office as Principal Council Officers (Clerk 9/10). As inquiry managers, Principal Council Officers are responsible for a committee inquiry. This typically involves working with a small team to organise committee meetings, review submissions, arrange hearings and site visits and provide advice to members of parliament. They also draft reports to an excellent written standard, based on the evidence gathered by a committee, that stand up to scrutiny from members of parliament, government agencies and inquiry stakeholders.
