Environmental Officer

We are currenlty looking for a Environmental Health Officer for a 12 month Contract for a Local Government Client

**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**
- Sound knowledge of statutory provisions relating to Environmental and Public Health.
- Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service through highly developed written, verbal communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and contribute positively towards the success of the section and organisation.
- Well-developed problem solving, research and analytical skills.

**EXPERIENCE**
- Experience as an Environmental Health Officer in Local Government is highly desirable.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR TRAINING**
- Qualification in Environmental Health (as deemed acceptable by the Chief Health Officer in accordance with section 18 of the _Public Health Act 2016)_ to enable appointment as an Environmental Health Officer.
- Suitably qualified to be gazetted as an Authorised Person and Inspector for the purposes of controlling noise under the provisions of the _Environmental Protection Act 1986_ is highly desirable.
- Current 'C' class drivers licence.
- Membership of a professional Environmental Health body/association is desirable.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Environmental Health**
- Respond to health and environmental (noise and unauthorised discharges) complaints and service requests, investigate and resolve
- Promote and create awareness within the community on issues relating to environmental and public health
- Provide technical advice on health issues to staff, ratepayers, community groups, government departments and private organisations
- Participate in the development assessment process to ensure applicants are aware of health requirements
- Assist where required, with disaster management on behalf of the City
- Deputise for the Senior Environmental Health Officer during periods of absence as and when required
- Attend working group meetings when required

**Public Health**
- Administer and discharge the provisions of the _Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1911_, the _Public Health Act 2016_ and the _Food Act 2008_ and all associated regulations to ensure an acceptable standard of environmental health is maintained throughout the municipality in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Undertake regular surveillance of food premises, public buildings, public pools, lodging houses, offensive trades and skin penetration premises to monitor compliance with legislative requirements.
- Undertake regular sampling of food and water (public pools) to monitor compliance with legislative requirements, and follow up results.
- Undertake the review and assessment of public events and contribute to the development of subsequent approvals. Further, undertake necessary inspection of events.
- Promote and provide advice regarding immunisation, and conduct investigations of infectious diseases.
- Undertake pest control inspections, provide advice, make recommendations and issue directions to residents.
- Refer any identified or reported welfare issues/needs in the community, to the City's Community Development section and/or relevant State Government departments, and assist where necessary and when requested.
- Contribute to program/policy development and evaluation of the Welfare Services role and help identify needs in the community.
- Contribute to program/policy development and evaluation for preventing chronic diseases and help identify needs in the community.
- Undertake health promotional presentations/programs on relevant environmental health and chronic disease prevention topics when requested.

**Customer Service**
- Attend to Environmental Health and Public Health enquiries, investigate complaints, resolve or provide required information accordingly
- Provide health education to ratepayers, staff, schools and community groups when requested
- Provide a high level of internal and external customer service and comply with the City's Customer Service Charter at all times

**Administration**
- Maintain accurate health files and information records
