**About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions:
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).

About your opportunity:
There is one temporary flexible full-time and one temporary flexible part-time position available.

As a Principal Legal Officer the incumbent will:
Contribute to the development and implementation of a review framework for the review of historical criminal cases and associated forensic DNA evidence, from the perspective of the role of the ODPP and in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and guidelines.
Undertake complex legal review work associated with prosecuting historical criminal cases, considered closed, but under review, as a result of the Commission of Inquiry into the Forensic DNA Testing.
Supervise and provide guidance to legal support officers, and other administrative support staff tasked with supporting the legal review activities.
Develop and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, Courts, the legal profession, victims and their families, as well as chamber-based staff.
Work as part of a small, discrete team of legal professionals to deliver time sensitive outputs, in a sensitive, complex and contentious legal environment.

Knowledge of the concept of DNA testing and analysis, in the context of prosecuting criminal cases in the superior courts.
Demonstrated capabilities in stakeholder engagement and communication, with an ability to communicate effectively across a broad range of stakeholders - from the Judiciary to victim, witness, and their families.
Effective leadership style/approach, and the ability to supervise legal professionals and administrative support staff to delivery on time sensitive, complex and critical legal review work.
Knowledge and applied understanding of legal and professional ethics and integrity, as well as a knowledge and respect for diversity inclusion, cultural capability and trauma informed approaches.
