2 exciting fixed term opportunities available for an experienced Building Inspector in our Preventative Inspections team at the BPC
- An exciting position as Inspector, Building in the Preventative Inspections team is available for 6/12 months to cover extended vacancies within the inspectorate.
- The Inspector, Building in Preventative Inspections team is responsible for undertaking building inspections and audits informed by operational intelligence to drive and ensure suitable levels of practitioner compliance with relevant building legislation, codes and Australian Standards. The team is also responsible for the monitoring and enforcement of industry and practitioner performance in meeting compliance obligations.
- The Inspector, Building will respond to consumer complaints and support the BPC's efforts to tackle complex building matters and regulatory priorities, including conducting multi-disciplinary inspections, performing low risk inspections of class 2 buildings. The Inspector, Building will document and communicate compliance expectations to practitioners and will be required to exercise statutory powers in line with BPC policies and guidelines to both ensure compliance is achieved and improve outcomes for consumers.
**What we are looking for**:
- Current Victorian registration as a Building Inspector (limited or unlimited) and current Victorian driver's licence.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Building Regulatory Framework contained in the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, and the National Construction Code (Volume One and Two) and relevant standards and codes including the ability to interpret the Act, Regulations, Standards & Codes.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting site inspections and audits.
- Proactive self-starter who seizes opportunities and acts upon them; demonstrated capacity for sustained effort and hard work; sets high standards of performance for self and others; enjoys a vigorous and dynamic work environment.
- Have a sound understanding of contemporary regulatory delivery principles and practices as they relate to building classification.
- Seeks all relevant information for problem
- solving; liaises with stakeholders; analyses issues from different perspectives, implements innovative solutions, and draws sound inferences from information available;
**About the BPC**
- The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing. It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation. Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
