**Your role**

The Service Coordinator provides a range of bail intervention options for children and young people at risk of being bail refused by NSW Police and Courts due to lack of suitable accommodation and case support. Our primary focus is to reduce the number of young people in custody on bail and who require accommodation or other casework assistance. Youth Justice has responsibilities under the Close the Gap strategy (Target 11) to reduce the number of First Nations people entering custody, and our priority is to engage with Aboriginal communities and organisations that support this aim

**What you’ll do**
- The Service Coordinator, reporting to the Manager, Bail & Accommodation Support Service, undertakes a range of case management roles related to providing support for children and young people who are at risk of, or are engaged with the criminal justice system.
- In collaboration with other Service Coordinators, and with supervision by the Manager, the role coordinates, and monitors placements across NSW, liaises closely with NSW Police, funded service providers, Youth Justice Centres, Child Protection and Permanency Helpline, and Youth Justice staff.
- The role also maintains close links with community networks and an awareness of homelessness issues in regional, remote and city locations.
- This role maintains statistical databases in accordance with relevant legislation and agency policies, as well as contributing to the overall growth of knowledge and capacity building around homelessness as it related to children and young people at risk of entering the Youth Justice system.

**What we’re looking for**
- Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in the human services sector and criminal justice system are desirable.
- Sensitivity and cultural awareness in working with Aboriginal people.
- NSW Drivers Licence
- Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
- National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014

**In additional to meeting the above essential requirements t**he successful applicant will have**
- Experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system as it applies to children and young people is highly desirable.
- Capacity to work independently and proactively engage and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure child centred approaches to homelessness are developed and maintained.
- Ability to work within a small, highly enthusiastic team, who pride themselves on their initiative, flexibility, and strong commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Demonstrate the ability to adopt a flexible approach to work in order to adapt to quickly changing work demands and priorities.
- Have exceptional communication, and customer service skills, as well as an understanding and capacity to work with complex young people who face a variety of challenging issues such as disability, cognitive impairment, socio-economic disadvantage.
