**About the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations**

**The Role**
Reporting to the Assistant Director, VET Quality Policy, the Policy Officer is responsible for assisting with the implementation of reforms to improve the quality of VET training. This includes assisting with tasks associated with the revision of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and establishing other mechanisms to improve the quality of training.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
We are seeking individuals with the following skills and capabilities:
- A flexible mindset - happy to work in an agile way noting that we often have changing priorities.
- A willingness to contribute - we have an ‘all hands-on deck mentality’ when needed, you need to be comfortable sharing your thoughts and ideas, working collaboratively as well as the ability to working on an individual project as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills - especially the ability to write clearly and concisely and an understanding of the need to ensure communication is tailored for different audiences and fit for purpose. You also need some demonstrated experience in engaging with stakeholders and build effective working relationships.
- The ability to research, analyse and problem solve - we are all about evidence-based policy and value the skills of being able to research information, or reach out to others in the Branch or across the Department who may be able to assist us with information to help shape the implementation of key reforms.
- Self-management - the ability to reflect on your own work practices, a commitment to personal improvement. The ability to plan and prioritise your work, and the work of a sub team, and keep others informed of your progress, to deliver high quality outputs to deadlines.
- [APS 6 level only] Supervision and mentoring - the ability to lead a small team to deliver sub-projects, the ability to create a supportive environment to enable others to learn effectively.
