**About the Role**

The Manager, Strategic Assets position sits within the Rail Asset Management Branch of Transport Assets which is part of Assets & Engineering. This role is part of a team that is accountable for the development, upkeep and promotion of long-term rail asset strategies with a focus on maintenance and renewals. The role works closely with the modal planners and Transport Services to ensure that correct inputs are provided into strategies and performance objectives for operators are developed and adhered to.

The role is accountable for providing leadership and direction for the development of the strategic plans for investment in sustainment of the rail networks, specifically **Trams**. The incumbent ensures the team provides strategic oversight and advice in asset management for maintenance and renewals programs developed by the asset stewards (the entities providing operational management of the assets). In conjunction with this the role ensures alignment to the department’s strategic intent.

**Position Outcomes**
- **Rail Asset Strategies - **Provided leadership and direction to the team in the development and upkeep of long-term rail strategic asset planning for the rail networks. Key rail asset strategies, for system and asset (sub)class are in place and there is a roadmap for improvements of asset strategies over time. The role of asset strategies in the Department’s decision making is clear and the use of asset strategies is embedded into the Department’s planning framework.
- **Sound Submission - **Provided leadership and direction to the team for the development of submissions for investment into the rail network sustainment. The submissions are clear, comprehensive and reflect strategic priorities as articulated in asset strategies, all of which is underpinned through analysis and asset insights. The submissions have been prepared collaboratively with the key stakeholders (both internal and external).
- **Expert Advice -** Provided expert advice to the resolution of complex matters in strategic planning for the rail network. The Manager has led teams in the provision of oversight and advice to the management of asset risks, prioritisation of investment in rail maintenance and renewal programs. There is confidence that funds have been prioritised to the highest risk/impact areas.
- **Effective Leadership -** Provided effective asset management leadership and support to colleagues across the department’s divisions and operators. Leading forums and workshops to achieve optimal decisions to ensure that efficient and effective outcomes are achieved for public transport assets.
- **Promote and support safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.**

**Qualifications and Experience**

**Mandatory**
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Asset Management field
- Tertiary engineering qualification or equivalent technical qualification

**Desirable**
- Experience in project management
- Experience in strategic planning for public transport assets
