**About the Role**

An exciting opportunity has become available for a passionate, flexible and motivated individual to join our Botanic Gardens of Sydney team Our Horticultural Apprentices will be trained to assist in the development and maintenance of horticultural collections and displays in ground and within controlled environments and our natural areas. This includes pest and disease control, soil preparation, pruning, irrigation, plant nutrition, weeding, mowing, edging, bush regeneration, tree care and maintenance, record keeping, curation of collections, and the use and maintenance of associated plant and equipment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a group of world-leading staff from the fields of science, education and horticulture.

The Botanic Gardens of Sydney is responsible for the management and stewardship of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Domain, the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan and the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah and incorporates the Australian Institute of Botanical Science and is one of the country’s leading international tourism destinations.

**About You**

**What we are looking for;**
- Demonstrated passion or experience in tending a garden, growing plants (domestic, commercial or culturally), garden construction or similar or a genuine interest in growing and working with plants.
- An understanding of Work Health and Safety policies and practices.

**Essential Requirements**
- NSW School Certificate or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake formal study of horticulture.
- Ability to undertake fieldwork, if required, for extended periods (outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required) be physically fit and have the ability to lift and carry a minimum 15 kg
- Current provisional or full driver’s license with the ability to operate manual vehicles, at the commencement of the Apprenticeship.
