The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

The Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre Division (CISC) within the Department of Home Affairs is multi-disciplined and diverse, offering opportunities and exposure to multiple Government functions. Our officer’s focus on preventing unlawful interference in the aviation and maritime sectors while also contributing to broader national security efforts, including in counter-terrorism, critical infrastructure resilience and cyber-security. CISC offers opportunities to work in areas of policy, program management, compliance, change management, analytics and administrative and enabling support to deliver outcomes for the aviation, maritime and offshore oil and gas sectors.

CISC officers work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the Department and its portfolio agencies, as well as the broader Australian Government and industry. We work in cooperation with intelligence partners to design regulatory solutions that ensure travellers and goods moving through Australia’s ports remain safe and secure. We regulate more than 2000 industry participants, meaning on any given day CISC officers are working with stakeholders such as major airlines, airports, United Nations bodies, exporters, logistics providers and cruise and freight shipping companies and major ports.

CISC responds to emerging threats in real-time, working to safeguard trade and travel both within Australia and internationally.

CISC has a reputation for delivering innovative, effective and timely policy and operational outcomes for the Department and the Australian Government. CISC officers work to identify gaps, amend policies, implement operational requirements and foster transport security innovations. CISC officers are able to see firsthand the impact of their policy and regulatory decisions on Australia’s aviation and maritime transport sectors.
- The Branch:_
The Regulatory Compliance Branch is responsible for the delivery of regulatory assessments, compliance and enforcement under the Australian Government's Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre legislation (A_viation Transport Security Act 2004 _and Regulations, and the _Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003_ and Regulations). The Branch is geographically dispersed with Canberra-based Sections providing operational planning, governance and regulatory business systems support to the regional offices. Regional Compliance Teams are located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

As a part of the Compliance Teams, APS5 Transport Security Inspectors work in a challenging, fast-paced environment and use well-developed analytic, strategic thinking and collaborative skills to make a positive difference to Australia’s security interests. They work closely with the intelligence community and industry stakeholders to design regulatory solutions and ensure that travellers and goods moving through Australia’s sea and airports remain safe and secure.
Transport Security Inspectors undertake a broad range of operational compliance functions, including undertaking audits, system tests and inspections under the Australian Government’s Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre legislation and to meet the requirements of the CISC National Compliance Plan. In addition, they undertake the on-site validation component of the regulatory approvals process
