**The NSW Reconstruction Authority**

The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation that will improve how NSW plans for disasters and help communities recover from them faster.

To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the Authority will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, businesses, and government. When disaster does strike, the Authority will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities, and other stakeholders.

**The role of Head, Preparedness and Recovery**

The Head, Preparedness and Recovery provides executive leadership and direction to the delivery of a substantial and diverse portfolio of activities relating to disaster preparedness, recovery and the delivery of regional services.

Key accountabilities include leading the total operations of the Preparedness and Recovery Group and building a professional team capable of designing and delivering preparedness and recovery operations in a devolved manner. The role collaborates to deliver effective governance and strategic leadership within the Authority and across Government. The role directs the overall performance of the Group, especially with regard to continuous improvement and ongoing evaluation of a professional regional service delivery network capable of operating in a devolved manner with highly functional relationships with Councils, other State agencies, communities and community leaders.

The role will also lead teams to establish a portfolio of service providers and partners to deliver preparedness and recovery functions; develop best practice systems and processes to support communities to be ready for major disasters; and implement in recovery services and operations after disasters. Key to this is continuous development of workforce capability within the Group.
