**The Role**
The Corporate Governance Team undertakes a variety of governance and corporate functions to support Executives and business groups to implement cross-agency initiatives. The team contributes to support governance frameworks, building relationships and working collaboratively with a range of Commonwealth agencies, portfolio entities and other key internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities fall under 4 focused areas:
- Oversight of the department’s governance framework, including Executive Board.
- Oversight of the department’s Internal Policy Framework.
- Oversight of external relationships including management of senior governance committees.
- Oversight of the department’s enterprise project management and governance.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Governance, the Assistant Director is responsible for leading the following key tasks and functions:
- Oversight of external relationships including strategic coordination of the department’s intergovernmental governance committees:
- Bilateral Management Committee with Services Australia
- Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) Governance Committee with the Department of Education
- Coordination and management of the DEWR to Education MoU requirements.
- Coordination and management of the Statement of Intent and supporting Protocols.
- Supervise APS-level staff.
- Other tasks as directed.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Executive Level 1 may include:
- Providing direction regarding the purpose and importance of internal and external governance work. Illustrating the relationship between operational tasks and organisational goals and setting tasks that align with the strategic objectives and expected outcomes.
- Building and sustaining relationships with a network of key people internally and externally. Proactively offering assistance for a mutually beneficial relationship, and anticipating and being responsive to client needs.
- Involving people, encouraging them and recognising their contribution. Consulting and sharing information and ensuring others are kept informed of issues. Working collaboratively and operating as an effective team member.
- Establishing clear plans and timeframes for achieving governance and secretariat deliverables and outlining specific activities that need to occur. Responding in a positive and flexible manner to change and uncertainty. Sharing information and assists others to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Undertaking objective, systematic analysis and drawing accurate conclusions based on evidence. Recognising the links between interconnected issues and breaking through problems to identify solutions, including exploring possibilities and innovative alternatives.
