**Who are we**:
With the enactment of the Water Act 2007 (Cth), the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.
For the first time in the Basin's history, one Basin-wide institution is responsible for planning the Basin's water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole.
Our most important work is to:
- prepare, implement and review an integrated plan for the sustainable use of the Basin's water resources
- operate the River Murray system and efficiently deliver water to users on behalf of partner governments
- measure, monitor and record the quality and quantity of the Basin's water resources
- supporting, encourage and conduct research and investigations about the Basin's water resources and dependent ecosystems
- advise the Australian Government Minister responsible for water on the accreditation of state water resource plans
- provide water rights information to facilitate water trading across the Basin
- engage and educate the Australian community about the Basin's water resources.
**In this role you will**:
- Oversee and improve the MDBA’s risk management, fraud management and business continuity frameworks and policies, including leading regular review and continuous improvement activities.
- Build capability across the MDBA by developing and leading effective training and education activities, and by developing and embedding user centred guidance, tools and templates to support MDBA staff to undertake risk, fraud and business continuity activities.
- Provide high-level assistance to the agency in the preparation of the MDBA’s corporate governance framework including development, implementation and monitoring of the Corporate Plan and the Annual Report.
- Undertake performance reporting against the corporate governance framework to ensure the effective delivery of, and compliance with the MDBA’s accountability obligations and strategic and corporate goals and objectives.
- Assist in managing and coordinating all activities relating to the MDBA’s internal audit program. This includes procurement and contract management of the internal audit service providers, development and execution of a risk based strategic internal audit program and reporting to the MDBA’s Executive, Audit and Risk Committee on the progress and outcome of internal audit activities.
- Work with business units to embed risk management within business processes, achieve a positive risk culture and otherwise promote awareness of risk and related governance frameworks so that risk identification and mitigation becomes a core element of all MDBA activities.
- Oversee the MDBA’s business continuity arrangements, including the development of plans, and assisting with testing exercises at both operational and strategic levels to prepare the MDBA to recover quickly from business interruption events.
- Prepare management reporting including sharing insight into trends and recommended courses of action to improve compliance, simplify internal processes and otherwise improve risk, audit, fraud and business continuity capabilities.
- Provide ad-hoc advice and support for teams in conducting risk activities across and undertake governance team ad-hoc duties as required.
