Manager, Business Controls

**How will I help?**
As a Risk Manager - Business Controls and Monitoring you will play a pivotal role in business controls governance across the 1st Line of defence team under the Enterprise Services function within the Institutional Bank.

Key focus areas within this role include
- Supporting the implementation and ongoing management and reporting of risk and compliance obligations in the 1st Line of Defence, including the embedding of the Operational Risk Management Framework and the Compliance Management Framework.
- To provide assurance of the effectiveness of the Business Unit’s risk management practices.
- To assist Business Unit leadership to drive a strong, embedded risk culture that optimises risk / reward and helps achieve business objectives.
- Protecting the business by assisting them in carrying out effective risk practices and to continuously improve them.
- Responsible for ensuring that the RCM process is managed and maintained in line with WBC's 3 Lines of Defence frameworks and policies.

**Major accountabilities include**:
**Governance & Guidance**
- Provide governance and oversight through facilitating the implementation of Risk & Compliance policy requirements and changes across the Business Unit.
- Provision of guidance for all project / product / process change reviews.

**Risk Culture**
- Assist 1st Line Leadership to: _
- Establish, maintain, and monitor a risk aware and safe escalation culture with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and accountability across the 1st Line of Defence.
- Implement outcome-focussed risk and control solutions that optimise risk/reward balance.
- Timely and appropriate risk and compliance training of Business Unit employees.
- Develop and provide business unit specific training for 1st Line business unit and Risk & Compliance resources.
- Drive and embed a risk and compliance culture and awareness in day-to-day business decisions and business strategic initiatives.
- Operate effectively, within the approved risk and compliance appetite and in line with 3 Lines of Defence policies and frameworks.

**E2E Controls**
- Responsible for: _
- Completeness of key controls E2E that if operating effectively either reduce the likelihood of the risk occurring or reduce the potential impact if the risk occurred.
- Ongoing Design and Operating Effectiveness assessment of controls by the 1st Line of Defence.

**Supervision/Monitoring**
- Responsible for: _
- Development and implementation of action plans with the 1st Line leadership to address weaknesses and failures.
- Oversight of the 1st Line business ownership of the identification, assessment, management, remediation, monitoring and reporting of risks and incidents arising within the business.
- Oversight of the 1st Line of Leadership self-assurance process to demonstrate continuous operating effectiveness in a structured, documented manner with supporting evidence.
- Oversight of regular reviews by the 1st Line Leadership to ensure the ongoing relevance of the risk appetite statement, its supporting metrics, and thresholds.

**Incident Management**
- Assist 1st Line leadership to: _
- Identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report on operational risks, compliance risks and incidents arising within the business.
- Complete and accurately record of incident and appropriately assess and resolve incidents.
- Review PIRs and outcomes of all reported incidents, analysis of root cause and use of Risk and Control frameworks and policies.

**Reporting**
- Responsible for ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of risk reporting and management dashboards.
- Oversight and contribution to risk and compliance reporting activities
