**Unique opportunity for a Waste Planner Development Control Officer to work with a Council waste team that has been recognised nationally for innovation**
Brand new pilot role for either an experienced Waste Planner or a Town Planner who would like the opportunity to develop professionally into waste planning.
Position available on a temporary basis 6-12 months and will be responsible for:
- Assist with court and legal actions through the provision of development assessment documentation, technical advice and providing waste related expert advisory services and representing Council in legal actions. Prepare all required technical documentation and submissions to assist in Council legal actions.
- participating in strategic planning activities
- providing internal and external customer focused technical advisory services
- developing and implementing waste related development control policy, guidelines and technical specifications or other relevant documentation
- undertaking site inspections to verify compliance with waste related guidelines, general requirements and developing consent conditions
- resolving non-compliance issues to ensure properties receive effective waste service
- assisting in any legal actions and providing waste related technical advisory services
- ensuring the effective working integration of any waste related policy, guidelines, technical specifications or documentation into Council’s Development Control Plan (DCP) and development assessment processes.
- Reviewing Waste Minimisation and Management Guidelines for Development Control.
- Maintaining an active working knowledge of relevant Codes, Guidelines, Australian Standards and relevant technical information including, but not limited to: Building Code of Australia; Standards for parking facilities, turning circles, access ramps etc.; NSW Better Practice Guide for Resource Recovery in Residential Developments; NSW Low Rise Medium Density Design Guide; and waste collection vehicle specifications from the current Waste Collection Contract.
- Keeping abreast of contemporary waste management approaches and technology for use in developments to assist waste management solutions.
**Essential Criteria**:
- Degree level qualifications in environmental science, town planning, or another relevant field of study and/or extensive industry experience
- Knowledge of waste management and resource recovery issues in the built environment and/or experience in planning, development, architecture, construction and/or waste industries (desired)
- Sound knowledge of current State Government legislation and regulations relating to waste management and resource recovery and regional waste initiatives (desired)
- High standard of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to manage people
- Ability to liaise, negotiate and effectively resolve conflicts and reconcile competing interests and excellent customer service skills
**Desirable Criteria**
- Sound knowledge of current waste management challenges and opportunities.
- Possession of a NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Knowledge and experience in the functions and responsibilities of local government
- Knowledge of issues and opportunities associated with rapid urban growth
