**Contract Manager Waste / Environmental required for a great opportunity, working for a south west inner Sydney Council Waste Team who are recognised and awarded for innovation**
Temporary 6-12 months may extend, Brand new pilot role.
This role has responsibility for overseeing and administering all contracts involved in the provision of plant, collection, haulage, disposal and reuse and recycling of materials and waste collected across the LGA whether through the deployment of Council staff, external contractors or regional waste authorities.
The Contracts manager will have a key role in development, procurement, management and monitoring in waste and resource recovery contracts and service agreements, across the LGA.
The position works closely with management and staff in Sustainable Future, Waste Operations and Procurement and Legal to ensure that:
- Council and residents receive excellent services through all contracts, existing and new
- Procurement procedures are complied with and any probity issues are brought to the attention of the Team Leader Waste Major Projects
- Industry best practice knowledge, and innovative thinking inform all decisions
- Council and contractors comply with the terms of contracts, including WHS and EMS and customer service elements
- Any quality issues are brought to the attention of the Team Leader Waste Major Projects, Team Leader Environmental Sustainability and Manager Waste Operations, as appropriate together with a strategic problem solving approach
- Planning for future resource recovery is based on contractual arrangements that support Council in minimising waste to landfill, minimising Council’s carbon footprint and meeting objectives of the Community Strategic Plan and resource management and waste strategy
- Relationships and collaboration with contractors, other councils and government agencies provide leverage to meet Council’s objectives.
- Assist other operational areas in the tendering, evaluating, and awarding of contracts
- Set up and develop robust and active contract management with an innovative and collaborative approach.
**Essential Criteria**
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent industry experience
- Extensive experience in contract management, administration and process improvement in Resource Recovery, Environmental Sustainability or other relevant industry
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate, manage and monitor contracts that provide excellent value for money and achieve social and environmental objectives
- High level ability to maintain productive relationships with management, staff and contractors while ensuring that any quality, service or cost issues are dealt with quickly and to Council’s advantage
- Knowledge of legislative and regulatory framework relevant to the work of the Waste, Environment and Sustainability
- Strong customer focus, interpersonal communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills
- High level analytical and problem solving skills with the capacity to identify trends and influence medium and long term planning
- Excellent computer skills including the ability to generate user friendly reports
- Understanding and commitment to equal employment opportunities, diversity, work health and safety, ethical practice and acting with probity at all times

- Demonstrated appreciation of the complexity of Local Government, in particular the social, political and legal frameworks within which it operates
