**About the team**:
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is a large division within the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR). The NMI supports DISR in meeting its objectives by being the national authority on measurement.

We play a fundamental role underpinning the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia’s measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services.

NMI’s Legal Metrology Branch (LMB) plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. To ensure traders comply with the law and adopt correct measurement trading practices, we employ Trade Measurement Inspectors who check that measuring instruments (for example, weighing instruments, fuel dispensers and weighbridges) are accurate, and pre-packaged articles contain the correct amount of produce.

The Programs and Governance Section within the LMB has oversight and is accountable for the delivery of a diverse range of business operational requirements, while providing corporate support to the General Manager, LMB. It is comprised of four functionally aligned units, including Program Coordination and Monitoring, Program Coordination and Engagement, a Digital Business Team, and a Governance Team. The Technical Editor and Writer will be aligned with the Governance Team.

**The opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager, Programs and Governance, the role of Technical Editor and Writer will provide high quality, timely and accurate technical editorial services to the LMB to ensure a range of written documents are fit for purpose and the messages reach their intended audiences. You will work collaboratively across all sections of the LMB and also work closely with the NMI and DISR communications teams.

The role will focus the delivery of key LMB publications including branch priorities, compliance reporting, web updates, Measurement Law Reform artefacts, national test procedures and type approval documents and other documents identified by the Section Manager.

**What’s in it for you?**:
You will support the delivery of critical reporting and technical documents for the Legal Metrology Branch.
You will engage with a broad range of internal stakeholders, ensuring their needs are understood and their messages are clearly articulated in published form.
You will gain exposure to a trusted government department that provides critical services for all Australians.

The capabilities listed below describe the specific skills, knowledge and behaviours required to successfully perform this job role:

- Demonstrated experience with writing, editing and quality assurance of technical documents, preferably in a government or regulatory setting.
- Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to support effective engagement and professional relationships with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, managing timeframes to achieve outcomes.
- Personal drive and integrity in the context of the APS values, NMI values (Inclusive, Innovative, Accountable, Adaptable, Influential and Strategic) and code of conduct. Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership in supporting others to do the same.

**What you will do**:
The Technical Editor and Writer operates under broad direction and will be responsible for the following:

- Provide expertise to ensure a broad range of documents are suited to the audience whilst meeting relevant statutory and technical requirements, including the Australian Government Style Guide.
- Proofread, revise, edit and fact-check technical content.
- Working collaboratively with LMB Sections, NMI teams and the NMI Executive to ensure a consistent approach to how published docu
