**About us**
The Aboriginal Employment Team (AET) sits within the People and Workplace Services business unit and is responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Employment strategy and associated talent programs.
AET provides ongoing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Aboriginal) employees and manages a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives. The AET also contributes towards the innovation of new programs and policies to strengthen career development and cultural diversity and inclusion across the department.
**_ This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010_**
**About the role**
As a member of the AET (Aboriginal Employment Team) the Aboriginal Employment Programs Advisor will work closely with Senior Employment Programs Advisor by providing high level support across portfolios:
- Aboriginal Tertiary Scholarship program
- Aboriginal Youth Employment Scheme (YES) traineeship program
- Aboriginal Career Development Program
- Aboriginal Graduate Scheme
In addition, this role will be responsible for coordinating the support of various Aboriginal staff networks, including the Aboriginal Youth Network, to support the retention and career development of the department's Aboriginal employees.
This role will also contribute to a range of recruitment activities including participation on selection panels when required by Recruitment Services and community information sessions at various locations around the state. More broadly the Aboriginal Employment Programs Advisor will represent the department and Aboriginal Employment Team in promoting the organisation as an employer of choice for Aboriginal jobseekers.
This role involves occasional travel within Victoria.
**About you**
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it
- A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community
- A demonstrated knowledge of the labour market, including the complexity of attracting and retaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees
- Practical experience in at least one employment related area, such as recruitment, learning and development, or generalist human resources, or strong community development/project management experience.
