Head of Research and Innovation

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Research and Innovation Manager to lead our Personal Care Research and Development team. As a key member of our Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for fostering creativity and productivity within a dynamic, modern R&D laboratory and upholding continuous stringent quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a skilled Research & Development team, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and innovation.
- Manage the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to discontinuation, ensuring products are continuously improved and optimised.
- Ensure formulations align with current and future market demands and consumer needs.
- Ensure compliance of the R&D laboratory with TGA and GMP standards.
- Identify and develop innovative personal care products to enhance the product portfolio.
- Continuously improve and streamline the product development process to enhance speed to market and reduce costs.
- Manage projects effectively to meet target cost and timeline objectives.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and enhancements in existing formulations and procedures.
- Identify alternative sources for raw materials to optimise supply chain efficiency.
- Monitor global trends and changes within the personal care category to inform product development.
- Oversee the formula development schedule, ensuring adherence to product development timelines.
- Provide timely and accurate information to internal and external customers.
- Offer technical assistance to Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Sales departments as needed.
- Manage departmental expenditure to ensure alignment with budgetary goals.
- Capture all research and development activities to maximise R&D grant assistance.

Requirements- A minimum of a Diploma in personal care or relevant degree qualifications in science. A Masters or PhD will be well-regarded.
- Substantial experience in research and development of personal and/or sun care products, including familiarity with relevant technologies and equipment.
- Experience in R&D at a contract manufacturing company is highly regarded.
- Substantial demonstrated experience in a senior R&D leadership role.
- Familiarity and knowledge of TGA regulations and standards related to personal care, sun care, and cosmetics to ensure compliance with relevant government legislation and industry regulations.
- Experience in developing and managing R&D budgets and allocating resources effectively.
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to align R&D efforts with overall business goals and market trends.
- Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Experience in monitoring and managing the progress of multiple projects, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, team-oriented, and good work ethic with the ability to achieve successful outcomes.
