Senior Laboratory Lead, Molecular Genetics

The Senior Laboratory Lead for Molecular Genetics oversees the overall scientific, operational, and quality performance of a specialized diagnostic laboratory. This role is responsible for leading a team of scientists to deliver advanced molecular genetic testing services to patients and external clients nationally and internationally.

The laboratory operates with high levels of precision and reliability, ensuring accurate and timely results that impact patient care. The Senior Laboratory Lead plays a key role in strategic planning, service development, equipment selection and validation, and change management aligned with organizational goals and broader healthcare priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading daily laboratory operations, including staff management, test supervision, complex result validation, and clinical consultation.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving quality improvement initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing effective policies and procedures to maintain laboratory accreditation and ensure ongoing improvements in laboratory performance.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver clinical outcomes and research projects.

For this role, you will require:

  • A relevant degree or fellowship, with a minimum of 10 years' experience in an appropriate scientific field.
  • High level experience in molecular genetic scientific techniques and practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritize work and organize teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop laboratory and customer key performance indicators.
  • Self-motivation with proven ability to take responsibility and provide leadership.
