Position Overview:

Reporting to the Program Director, the Community Services Educator is tasked with the preparation, delivery, and evaluation of courses within the Bachelor of Community Services and related programs.

The role involves ensuring that students are provided with optimal opportunities to achieve learning outcomes and successfully complete their assessments. In addition, participation in course review initiatives, including validation and moderation activities, is essential. Availability for student support outside of scheduled class hours is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate both small and large classes, whether blended, hybrid, or online, while monitoring and promoting student engagement (utilizing the Learning Management System [LMS] as applicable).
  • Effectively manage personal and student time and focus on learning.
  • Review and validate teaching materials, providing recommendations in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Utilize current subject/unit outlines and teaching resources, including lesson plans, slides, videos, and student materials.
  • Incorporate learning technologies into course delivery effectively.
  • Engage in student-centered teaching practices, including competency-based learning and assessment, to foster an active and positive educational experience.
  • Apply best practices in competency-based pedagogy, instructional strategies, and communication methods tailored to the learners and the educational context.

Candidate Profile:

  • Possession of a PhD or Doctoral qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Sociology, Social Policy, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the Community Services sector (e.g., Aged Care, Disability, Community Development, Mental Health).
  • Experience in higher education teaching, demonstrating excellence in Learning & Teaching in both face-to-face and online settings.
  • Preference for candidates with experience teaching Community Services students.
  • Familiarity with Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) standards and a solid understanding of current scholarship and professional practices in the field.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
