Telecommunications Network Installation Technician

 

We are seeking a skilled Telecommunications Network Installation Technician to join our team in NSW Metro and Regional areas.

 

Job Description:

  • Install internal data cables and optical fibre cables in cable trays and conduits within customer premises in business settings.
  • Install optical fibres in external telecommunication infrastructure including underground ducts/conduits and pits.
  • Perform rod & roping (pipe proofing) tasks.
  • Clear blockages in underground pipes.
  • Build joint closures such as DJL, FJL, and BJLs.
  • Slice and test both copper cables and fibre cables.
  • Perform optical power meter, OTDR, and insertion loss testing of optical fibres.
  • Troubleshoot using the OTDR.
  • Label cables and network devices to required standards.
  • Prepare scope of works, order materials, and reconcile them.
  • Document 'as-built' details including red lines and artefacts.
  • Set up work sites and manage traffic, ensuring safety.
  • Understand WHS requirements, including SDS, WIs/JSAs/pre-starts, SWMS, and risk assessments.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in fibre splicing and OTDR troubleshooting.
  • Hold relevant accreditations and qualifications, including Rights to Work Australia, Construction Industry white card, recent police clearance, NBN fibre splicing accreditations, first aid & CPR, full NSW driver's license, ACMA registration, asbestos awareness, confined space & gas test, power awareness, RIIWHS302D implement traffic management plan, and working at heights.
  • The ideal candidate must demonstrate OTDR troubleshooting skills, ability to read and understand telecommunications plans, competence in utilising tablet devices and/or laptops, ability to work independently and in a team environment, excellent communication skills, and strong customer focus.
