Head of Data and Platform Architecture

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Data and Platform Architecture to lead and grow our architecture practice at AGL Energy. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in designing and implementing data-driven, flexible, and cost-effective technology solutions that align with our business strategy.
About the Architecture TeamThe Architecture team is part of the Technology business area and is responsible for shaping AGL Energy's technological landscape and IT infrastructure. We strive to make an impact by providing thought leadership to identify opportunities to take an enterprise approach to transforming a business capability. We take a structured approach to understand business problems, identify synergies across business areas, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and Grow a Talented Team: Foster a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and innovation, and provide mentorship and empowerment to your team to continuously improve architecture practices.
- Define and Drive Enterprise Capability Models: Develop and implement enterprise capability models, technology roadmaps, and strategic plans for AGL Energy's data platforms, cloud infrastructure, network (OT, Corporate, Telco), and DevOps tools.
- Establish and Maintain Architecture Frameworks: Create and maintain architecture frameworks, blueprints, reusable patterns, and governance models, ensuring alignment with both BAU and project delivery processes, supporting waterfall and Agile methodologies.
- Lead the Creation of a Cohesive Architecture: Bring clarity and focus to ambiguous environments, ensuring alignment with business units across AGL Energy while encouraging innovation and purposeful experimentation.
- Act as a Trusted Advisor: Translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders and drive strategic decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.
- Continuously Review and Optimise Architecture Practices: Use emerging technologies and industry trends to guide executive decision-making and ensure that AGL Energy remains at the forefront of technological innovation.
We are looking for a candidate with:
- Proven Experience in Architecture Management: A deep understanding of platform engineering, data mesh, microservices, and network strategy.
- Expertise in Telco, Broadcast Media, or Utilities: Hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps tools, and production platforms.
- Proven Experience Leading Architecture Teams: Developing strategic roadmaps that drive technology transformation.
- Strong Leadership Skills: Motivating teams and fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Excellent Communication and Stakeholder Management Skills: Influencing senior leaders and ensuring alignment across the enterprise.
- A Passion for Innovation: Focusing on Security by Design, automation, and data governance.
